Kitsch is in the eye of the beholder, but I’m gonna say these DIY candy heart dessert toppers cross over into the realm ofย kitschtastic.

How cute would these be to add a little kitschy charm to a Valentine’s Day party? (Do people really have those? Pinterest seems to think so…)

I know that I say this all the time, but this DIY is truly, truly so. very. easy. And fast. Which makes it the perfect DIY, because we all need more time to consume delicious Valentine’s Day goodiesย be with our significant others.

What You Need:

  • candy hearts, obvs.
  • wooden skewers
  • hot glue gun (or a fast-drying glue of your choice)

What You Do:

Apply a dab of glue to the skewer. Place a candy heart on it and let dry for a few minutes.

Repeat! I used three hearts per side. (And if you are as irritated by today’s candy heart messages as I was (where is the “xoxo?” what’s with this “TTYL” crap?), you could always glue them face down!).

Once all the glue has completely dried and cooled, pull off the gluey strands that hot glue is notorious for, and pop your topper into a tasty treat.

It should go without saying, but just in case—these are NOT edible, so be sure to watch them around kids!

Now please excuse me, I have to go devour that vegan coconut tart I bought as a “prop.”

I know it’s still a little early, but do you have any plans for Valentine’s Day? Other than chocolate?

  1. VERY CUTE! If one was really ambitious, royal icing could be used instead of hot glue. They still would not be edible (you can break a tooth on royal icing) but they would not be “toxic.”
