On Endings and Beginnings

Nevertheless, She Persisted / Print by @sylvanstatepark for Idle Hands Awake

2018 has been a roiling sea of emotions for me.

I’ve been trying to write this post for a while, and I’m still not really sure what to say. While it’s all very personal, my life is changing so much and I want to share that here. Many of you have been on this creativity adventure with me for a long time, and I want you to know that I’m a real human with struggles, whose life isn’t always perfect behind the pretty styled pictures.

**This is obviously one of those over-sharing posts. If you’d rather stick to the pretty pictures (no hard feelings!), may I direct you to my DIY gallery instead?

Ok, I’m just going to dive in.

I’m getting divorced.

Make it Friday: Let’s Do This

03.09.18

Finally, FINALLY settling into somewhat of a routine in my new place, in spite of decorating delays, travel to Alt Summit, and the longest flu I’ve ever had. So, hellooooo! I’m alive! How are youuuuu?

We all know I’m not great at keeping blog-related promises about consistency, but let me just say that I have been working HARD in my absence to bring you more DIYs, more design ideas, and other good bloggy stuff to come. It’s taken 2 and a half months but I’m ready to say, Let’s do this, 2018.

For now, thank you as ever for hanging in there with me. Enjoy this week’s Make it Friday installment!

All the best DIY project ideas for you to make this weekend!

+++ Crushing hard on the muted colors in Dream Green DIY’s embroidery hoop earring holder.

+++ Bildschoenes had the genius idea to embellish a simple storage box with chair caning and it’s got me wanting to cane all the things. (in German with pictures)

+++ Remodelaholic shows us that it’s easy to make your own wallpaper with a DIY moon phase stamp.

+++ Another jewelry holder DIY — because Ctrl + Curate just gets me.

+++ Printed paper gemstones add razzmatazz (that’s right) to a plain mirror in the Design*Sponge archives.

+++ Totally feeling the spring jungle vibes in this charming embroidered monstera banner by Brown Girl Decor Blog.

And if you’re already in an Easter mood, don’t miss my modern brushstroke Easter eggs from last year!

So tell me, what have you been crafting lately? Do you have any creative projects or plans to look forward to?

13 Warm Modern Reading Nooks to Survive the Rest of Winter

02.21.18

Fine Little Day - Warm Modern Reading Nooks

Pinterest may be abundant with all things spring right now, but there’s still plenty of time for a snowpocalypse/snowmageddon/bombvortex before the calendars catch up. Sorry, I’m a downer, I know.

That’s ok though, because that also means there’s plenty of time to get cozy indoors. Just envision yourself in one of these warm modern reading nooks. From minimalist window seats, to lush modern boho lounge chairs, these are the perfect little spots for some winter hibernation. Add a branch of greenery from the florist and you can even pretend spring has come early.

Can’t you see it now: a good book in hand, Mazzy Star crooning softly from the record player, a cat purring in your lap, and a steaming cup of almond chai latte?

DIY Marbled Hanging Plant Holder by Delineate Your Dwelling

I’m so excited to have the lovely Amy of Delineate Your Dwelling as a guest writer today. Amy is not only a talented and creative DIYer, but a kind and generous soul. One of the best things about blogging is making connections with other bloggers, and I feel lucky to count Amy as one of my “blog besties.” Plus we both share the philosophy that EVERYONE is creative! Today Amy is sharing a project that you plant hoarders will love — take it away, lady!

I adore using simple materials to create simple solutions.  One of my very favorite materials to create with is clay.  I often reach for Air Dry Clay but love the color options that Polymer Clays can give you.  Today, I am sharing how to create this modern DIY Marbled Hanging Plant Holder.
