They say better late than never, and I hope that’s true because ORC Thursday blew right by me this week.

But don’t worry, your agonizing wait is over! I’ve got some sneak peeks of how the bedroom makeover is coming along, plus tips on what art and accessories to use to decorate a Scandinavian-inspired bedroom.

If you’re new here, let me fill you in: I’m transforming my new rental bedroom into a moody blue sanctuary as part of the six-week One Room Challenge design series. It’s wicked fun, even though I don’t know how I’ll get it done in time! Hop over to see all the other ORC guest participants, it’s a smorgasbord of delicious design inspiration.

And you can follow my makeover progress from the beginning right here:

Now back to the reason we’re all here today — pretty pictures!

First up, I’ve started pimping out my ELVARLI unit by turning one section into a standing vanity. Scandinavian inspired bedroom

Guys, I’ve never ever had a vanity before. !!!

Now that I’m single in my 30s, I’m suddenly way more concerned with girly things (probably because I’ve noticed that gravity is starting to kick in). It felt like it was time to put on my big-girl pants and get a vanity. And of course it had to be a multi-purpose piece to fit into my tiny room. so the ELVARLI was the perfect solution.

There is something unexpectedly delightful about having my jewelry and sparse makeup collection easily at hand in a dedicated space. I’m clearly centuries (millennia?) late to this revelation, but then I never claimed to be a trend-setter.

Isn’t that YPPERLIG box just the sweetest? I’ve got totally different plans for it in the next few days (IKEA hack time!!), but it does look lovely as a jewelry box too.

I can’t wait to show you the whole thing! Buuuut I have to finish it all first, so in the meantime…

Allow me to introduce you to my sanctuary corner. 🙂 It’s a total joy to come home in the evening, turn on the soft lamps, light some candles, and read a good book with Jax snuggling down in my lap. Heaven!  Scandinavian inspired bedroom Scandinavian inspired bedroom

Did you notice the forest print above the nightstand? I love being in the forest, pine ones especially, but living in the city on a busy street, there’s not many trees in sight. I chose this print to have a little calm forest moment that I can look at every day.

On the other side of the room, my workspace organization is almost complete!

And I wanted to show you a little styling trick. Check out how different this vignette looks just by changing out the print and frame:

You can update any shelfie with just one different art piece. Fun, right?

The first look is bold, dramatic, and graphic. The black frame and art create a minimal, punchy feel. By switching it up with a light hand-lettered piece in a light wood frame, the vignette becomes softer, more textured, a little more boho.

Which look do you prefer, one or two?

I’ve got to knuckle down to finish the rest of the room. Updated list:

  • Scrape flaking paint from doors and trim
  • Prime and paint ceiling, walls, and trim
  • Prime and paint baseboard radiators
  • Install hanging desk from my old workspace
  • Hang curtains and blackout blinds
  • Figure out some sort of shelving storage solution
  • Order furniture
  • Assemble furniture
  • Strike-through textChoose art and accessories
  • Unpack all my crap
  • Decorate!

Ok so it doesn’t look like much, but the rest of the unpacking/organizing/decorating has really got me stalled! Plus I have two DIYs I’m working on that, of course, are taking me longer than I expected. ::Rolls up sleeves then sighs heavily into a cup of Chai::

I would loooooove to hear from you about which print I should keep on that shelfie! What do you like best? Annnnnd what projects are you working on that you’re worried you’re not gonna finish in time?
