It’s a pumpkin swap! I teamed up with three other blogging gals to show our takes on a modern trend pumpkin. (GUESS WHICH TREND I PICKED). Keep reading to see what we came up with!
How many things can you cover with rattan?
All of them. The answer is all of them.
A funny side effect of being a blogger is that it makes you way more tuned in to trends. (I blame Pinterest). Hexagons, pineapples, color-blocking, terrazzo—I’ve dabbled in all of these fads in the years since I started the blog. Hey, I have to make myself look cool somehow.
But this rattan/cane trend. This is something special. Cane webbing is just so simple. And classic. And VERSATILE.
The natural outcome of the Awesomeness that is Cane is that I have to put it on all of the things. Sorry, no choice in the matter.
All this to say, I made a DIY rattan pumpkin and you can too!
It’s stylish. It’s easy. And it follows the most important rule Pinterest has taught us about pumpkin decorating: never, EVER carve.
Speaking of not carving, when one of my blog friends suggested that we each take on a current design trend as a pumpkin decorating technique, I was obviously stoked and said yes right away. So, I’m VERY happy to be able to share the super stylish ideas from our ever on-point ringleader, Cat from Ctrl + Curate; real-life crafting comrade, Faith of Design Fixation; and newish-to-me, but very admired, Christina at Spatial Dwelling.
Keep reading to find out how to make your own DIY rattan pumpkin, and catch my friends’ modern trend pumpkins at the end of the post!

DIY RATTAN PUMPKIN
Skill level: Ridiculously easy.
Time: 5 minutes (for real).
WHAT YOU NEED:
+ pumpkins (Don’t ever say I’m not thorough about my supply lists).
+ cane webbing*
+ scissors*
WHAT YOU DO:
Step 1 — Cut a strip of cane webbing that’s a few inches wide, and long enough to wrap around your pumpkin with about an inch overlap. Use the pattern on the cane as a guide to cut straight.
***Optional but recommended for boho flair: “fringe” the cane webbing by pulling out vertical strips from the weaving.
Step 2 — Wrap the cane around the pumpkin.
If your cane webbing isn’t long enough to go all the way around, you can make a “patch” to close the gap.
Step 3 — Secure in place with double-sided tape.
And just like that, you’re ready to show your trick-or-treaters how Pinterest-worthy you are.
What I love most about no-carve pumpkin DIYs is that the pumpkins can usually keep all the way to Thanksgiving. And rattan pumpkins would look just lovely at any harvest feast. You know, in my ever-so-humble opinion.
Don’t worry, if rattan isn’t your thing — or you want to try all of the pumpkin trends, and who could blame you — my blog friends have even more modern no-carve pumpkin ideas for you.

We’ve got a toddler over here, so we’ve resorted to buying white pumpkins and painting them this year! Nobody is giving a three year old a knife to carve with!
I think the no-carve trend was definitely invented by parents of tiny humans! Good call on painting, I’m sure they will be great!
These are so cute! I’m not going to lie, I’m far too lazy to carve a pumpkin and in recent years I’ve just been no good at it whatsoever so I just don’t try anymore. This is a great alternative so you can still join in the halloween fun and do it in a more stylish, less messy way! Love it!

I am completely the same about carved pumpkins! I just don’t have the finesse to get a good “wow” result when carving. Rattan is a MUCH easier alternative to practically everything, I’m discovering. 😉 Thank you so much for stopping by, and for your kind words! xx
