THIS POST IS SPONSORED BY IKEA STOUGHTON, BUT ALL IDEAS & OPINIONS ARE ENTIRELY MY OWN.
The moody blue bedroom makeover is FINISHED.
Oh you guys, you can’t imagine how good it feels to say that. Redoing this room has been taking up the majority of my brain space for a couple months now. Suddenly, I can think of other things again, from the comfort of my very own ME space. Phew!
Yes, the reveal is late. I totally missed the One Room Challenge finale. But, you can’t rush perfection, right? 😉
I’m not gonna waste a lot of time talking in this one — there are a LOT of pictures and sources to go over for this Scandinavian-inspired bedroom makeover. So just a quick recap: I teamed up with IKEA Stoughton to transform my new rental bedroom into a moody blue sanctuary, as part of the One Room Challenge six-week series.
Over 200 bloggers participated this year, and the room makeovers are epic! Be sure to check them all out right here.
And, follow along with my own room progress from the beginning:
Week One | Week Two | Week Three | Week Four | Week Five | Week Six
Before I can show you aaaaaallllll the pretty pictures, let’s check back in on the before, shall we?
This admittedly wasn’t the worst place to start from, but the light sage walls were dingy, the cream trim off-putting, and that fan…yikes. Most importantly, the room just wasn’t “me.”
But now….
Gaaaahhhhh, I love it so much! Ok, an official little tour:
The first thing you see when you come in to the room is the workspace, which I love even more than its original setup now that it has room to spread out.
To the right of the door as you walk in is the new IKEA ELVARLI unit, which I’m using as a dresser, storage shelves, AND a vanity.
Oh did you notice the new fan?? It’s so beautiful and discreet, I just love it!
Amazingly, I managed to convince my landlord to reimburse me for this beauty. It helped that the old one was buzzing, but it just goes to show, it never hurts to ask for an upgrade even when you are a renter.
And now to the left of the door — THE MOODY BLUE WALL.
I never thought it was possible to be in love with a wall, but this wall…it makes me soooooo happy!
Since I’ve started my life over this year (and moved in with roommates!), it was incredibly important to me to make this room really mine. Home is where you go “aaahhhhh” at the end of the day, and now that I’m flying solo, I wanted to pamper myself with a place that really evokes that mood for me from the second I open the door.
Usually, that means all bright white everything, and I clearly stuck with that for part of the room. But I somehow became obsessed with moody blue bedrooms this winter (let’s blame Pinterest). And since starting over is all about change, I dove into painting an accent wall in a lovely, slightly slate, moody blue that I mixed myself.
Oh, and HI BEAUTIFUL BIG WALL HANGING!! This giant, textured “weaving” is actually an IKEA hack that I’m going to show you how to make. Hint: it’s sooooo easy. Stay tuned for the tutorial!
Even Jax is a fan! Though he might be more partial to the bedding.
Phew, that was even more photos than I realized! Let’s move on to sources, so that you can see what you need to recreate your own Scandinavian-inspired moody blue bedroom.

Hahahaha, a girl after my own procrastinator heart! 😀 Thank you so much for the love — hopping over to check yours out now! xx
Stunning makeover! Love the moody blue wall with all the grey accents on the bed. And love how you’ve worked in so much storage too, without making it look too much at all. You’ve inspired me to get on with finishing my home – one room at a time.
Love, love, love your ORC transformation! I love that tapestry over your bed and your desk area is perfection. I tackled my bedroom for ORC this time around too-I’m glad to finally have it all done! 🙂
Thank you SO much Kristin! I’m so happy with how it came together. And your bedroom looks sooooo good!
That wall hanging is AMAZING! I’m blown away that that is an IKEA hack and super interested to read how you made it.

It looks absolutely AMAZING!! I love the wall hanging, and am so impressed by how much functionality you were able to pack into the space! BRAVO!
Looks beautiful! I am loving all the moody vibes and all those special touches like the wall hanging. Gorgeous makeover !
Thank you so much, Stephanie! I am so happy to hear that. Plus, so pumped to be finished! 😉
Incredible transformation & great use of space! It’s a perfect balance of comfort & practicality. I wish I could downsize my work area to be so efficient. One suggestion: please check on the toxicity of your plants. They’re beautiful, but if Jax is like my two cats, he may nibble when I’m not looking.
